After Nicki Minaj was out of the limelight for a few weeks, she reappeared on December 12 at the Billboard Women in Music event. In her speech she became very emotional when she honored her former tour partner Juice WRLD after his death.
Nicki Minaj 37, skipped Billboard Women's pink carpet at music events on December 12, but accepted her Game Changer award during the ceremony. At the event Nicki looked absolutely incredible in a deep black dress that perfectly emphasized every inch of her figure. "Thanks a lot to Billboard for that – it's the only thing that got me dressed last month," joked Nicki (the rapper has been keeping a low profile since his marriage to Kenneth Petty in October)]
The rest of Nicki's speech, however, was not a laughing matter. During her time on the podium, Nicki recognized how "honored" she was to face so many "great women" like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Alanis Morissette. However, she added that she did not feel "comfortable" talking about herself due to the recent death of Juice WRLD she was touring and working with. Instead of talking about her accomplishments and being a woman in the industry, Nicki used her two-minute speech to honor the deceased rapper.
"One day I had a great conversation with him and when we went to the stage, he held my hand and told me to stay calm and pray," Nicki said, seemingly suppressing the tears. "He said he was trying to do just that. I was so shocked that I just heard him and told me that, but that's when I actually felt calm. I had the feeling … what am I worried about? I felt like a kindred spirit. Looking back now, I wish I had done something else or said something to help. He talked to me in great detail about how in love he was with his girlfriend and how passionate he was about music. When he was in the studio with me, he did so many songs so fast. He was honest and pure about what he felt and that inspired me. I just want to honor him tonight and offer my condolences to him, his family and his girlfriend. "
Juice WRLD was only 21 years old when he tragically died following a seizure and reportedly went into cardiac arrest on December 8, "Additional studies are needed to determine cause of death and death." Understandably, the music industry is completely torn apart by this tragic loss.
