Mariah Carey’s “All I Need for Christmas Is You” Reaches No. 1—25 Years After It Got here Out

More than 25 years after its original release, Mariah Careys "Everything I wish for Christmas is you" is ahead of Billboard Hot 100 for the first time. According to the billboard, it is the longest time a song has to reach number 1.

Despite its popularity and ubiquity, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" was not eligible for the Hot 100 when it was released in fall 1994 because it was not a commercial single. The chart rules have changed since then to allow album editing for the Hot 100.

Mariah Carey released Merry Christmas (Deluxe Anniversary Edition) last month to celebrate the album's 25th anniversary. The new edition gave the song an even stronger commercial boost than is normally the case during Christmas.
