This news is excellent. 30 years ago, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter played Ted Theodore Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq. in the surprise that Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure had in 1989 and the Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey that followed in 1991. Now the two actors have reunited for the third film in the Bill & Ted Face The Music series, and the first images have been released from the long-awaited sequel.
According to Entertainment Weekly, it was their special Bill & Ted meeting at which Reeves, Winter and writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon performed almost two years ago that proved that fans were hungry for a third film.
Solomon told the publication that the response to this reunion was "wavering even for the greatest cynics" and that was great news for them when they discussed their ideas for a third film. The last strip shows that Bill and Ted are still trying to develop the music for their band Wyld Stallions that will save the world and they suddenly find that they are running out of time.
"They were told when they were teenagers that they would save reality and they worked on it all the time," says Matheson. "Now an emissary comes from the future and says:" You have to do it immediately. We literally have 80 minutes, otherwise the whole reality ends. "
Fortunately, in this film the duo has help from an unexpected place: their daughters. Samara Weaving plays Bill's daughter Thea and Ted's daughter Billie is played by Brigette Lundy-Paine. Matheson says the daughters "really love their father's music," and that's why they want to help.
Other members of the cast include Beck Bennet from Saturday Night Live as Ted's younger brother Deacon and the musician / actor Kid Cudi who plays himself. Director Dean Parisot says Kid Cudi is "mysteriously thrown through different times because all time and every space remain unglued."
It's no secret that Reeves has had an extremely successful acting career since his last game against Ted. But fans may not know that Winter had a successful career as a documentary filmmaker. Even if it's been a while since he acted, Winter doesn't worry.
"If I played King Lear again I would have moistened my diapers," he says. "But I know this guy pretty well."
Bill & Ted Face The Music hits theaters across the country on August 21, 2020.
